James H. Barrow, Sr., age 79, of Shingleton, died Tuesday evening, January 24, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 8, 1932, in Jordan Township, Michigan, to the late Peter and Myrtle (Allen-Pence) Barrow. Jim married Charlotte M. Ruggles on August 14, 1954, and together they raised their four children. Jim enjoyed working in the woods for Ed and Leslie Graves, before moving to Royal Oak, MI where he took on a position as the production foreman at Brickcrete Building Supplies. When he retired in 1978, he moved back to the UP, where he continued making patio block. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an all-around handyman. Jim loved the Lions and Tigers, and his many dogs that he treated like they were one of his children.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years – Charlotte of Shingleton; sons – Jim “Lil Wheel” (Kathy) Barrow, Jr. of Escanaba, Steve Barrow of Shingleton, and Billy (Diane) Barrow of Clarkston, MI; nine grandchildren – Shannon (Matt), Dallas (Vanessa), Danny, Deanna, Darcie, Stephen Jr., Jennifer, Billy II, and Bredan; six great-grandchildren; brother – Peter (Evelyn) Barrow of Munising; sister-in-law – Donna Barrow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
