Corey James Heldmann

Corey James Heldmann, age 27, of Munising, died following a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, 2015 at home surrounded by his family and North Woods Hospice. He was born in Escanaba on September 3, 1987 to Richard "Dick" and Pamela (Vallie) Heldmann. Corey grew up in Munising, Ishpeming, and Negaunee. He graduated from Munising High School in 2006. After high school, Corey took a ride to Florida and spent some time there. He returned to the U.P. and went to work at Bessemer Plywood Corporation and he also worked other jobs in the local area. In October of 2011, Corey began dating Nicole MacArthur and they were married on January 10, 2015. He loved fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. Corey was a Green Bay Packer fan and was able to watch a playoff game in the General Manager's box this last season. He was great with children and he could easily talk with people and make friends. Corey and Nikkie enjoyed walking the beach and collecting beach glass.

He is survived by his wife - Nikkie Heldmann of Munising; mother - Pam Hansen of Ishpeming; brothers - Ken (Tonya) Vallie and Patrick Hansen; niece and nephews - Autumn, Kenneth II, and Micah; grandmother - Phyllis Vallie of Stephenson; parents-in-law - Tom (Donna) MacArthur and Linda Rupp; sisters-in-law - Heather MacArthur (Jared Rautanen) and Sara MacArthur; aunts and uncles - Paula Vallie, Frank (Cheryl) Vallie, Joe Vallie, Sue Dempsey, Shelly (Marty) Boerio, and John Heldmann (Arletta); numerous cousins; and longtime friends - Billy Hase, Bobby Bond, and Shaun St. Amour. Corey was preceded in death by his father Dick and grandparents - Doris Raatz, Jack and Faye Heldmann, and Frank Vallie.

Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Rev. Robin Nixon will conduct Corey's funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
