Munising

Lillian M. Chaltry, age 96, of Munising, died early Sunday afternoon, May 10, 2015 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on September 11, 1918 to the late Edward and Anna (Suhr) Mech. After graduating from high school in Marinette, Lillian began working at the Saranac Glove Factory. On September 2, 1944 she married Earl Chaltry. When Earl was hired by Kimberly Clark they relocated to Munising. Lillian helped manage and clean the Bay View Cabins in Brown's Addition, and then did housekeeping at Munising Memorial Hospital and many residences around town. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, cake decorating, and Lillian and Earl were avid ball room dancers. She was a member of the Munising Eastern Stars Chapter 424, Eden Lutheran Church, Munising Lions Club, and volunteered her time for Easters Seals which included wheelchair cleanings.

Lillian is survived by her daughter - Melanie Mattila of Toivola, MI; grandson - Craig (Mary) Mattila of Cudahy, WI; great-granddaughter - Dakota Ann Mattila, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband - Earl Chaltry; parents - Edward and Anna; sisters - Adeline (Al) Limberg and Lucile Mech; and brother - William Mech.

Lillian's visitation will be on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be on Tuesday, May 19 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Eden Lutheran Church in Munising. Pastor Dave Hueter will conduct Lillian's serve at noon. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, MI.
