Norma DesArmo

Norma DesArmo, age 92, of 221 E. Chocolay Street in Munising died on Tuesday morning, February 10, 2015 at the Harbour View Assisted Living Center in Munising where she had made her home the last seven years. Norma was born on September 5, 1922 in Munising to the late Carl and Rosa (Weis) Budtke. She graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1940. After school, she kept house for herself and her father. Norma worked at Kimberly Clark and at Hub's Super Value in the bakery. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church where she sang in the church's choir. Norma met Eli DesArmo who was a widower with a young family. They fell in love and were married on August 9, 1958. Norma also fell in love with her role as a mom to the four kids. She helped raise them with love and respect throughout their lives. Norma was a wonderful gardener and she also loved to read. Her love for reading was recognized by Mrs. Beo Mitchell, the librarian, who would let Norma check out extra books and she belonged to many book clubs. In her younger years, Norma enjoyed golfing, bowling, taking pictures, drawing, skiing, swimming in Lake Superior, and playing in the woods behind Mrs. Mitchell's home. Eli and Norma enjoyed traveling together then liked to take trips to Vegas with relatives. They were married over forty-eight years when Eli preceded her in death on November 20, 2006.

Norma is survived by her children - David (Roseanne) DesArmo of Anchorage, Alaska, Mary Lou (Cary "Ket") Paulsen of Munising, and Paula (Allen) Hurtubise of Shawano, Wisconsin; grandchildren - Stephanie (Tom), Eli, Sabrina, Kim, Scott, Lori (Mario), Shawna (Jesse), Jennifer (Dom), and Jeff (Monique); great grandchildren - Chelsey (Tony), Mark, Roseanne, Powers, Paris, Sydnei, Tayden, Nicholas, Emily, Alexis, Aston, and Aidan; great-great-grandchildren - Landyn, Ashton, Karsyn, and Levi; niece - Candace; and nephew - Joe. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eli, son and daughter-in-law Gary and Sharon DesArmo, grandson Tommy Bugg, and her siblings.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. with a parish Vigil service and a time for sharing stories at 7:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Norma's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 2:15 p.m.
