William E. “Bill” Chatt, age 85, of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin and formerly of Munising, died Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Wm. Middleton V.A. Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin following an unexpected illness. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1934 to William and Nelda (Alban) Chatt. Bill grew up in Centerline and at the age of seventeen, enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. He served in Texas, Illinois, and Lakenheath, England. Bill served from 1952 until 1956. He returned home and while raising his three children, was a driver and salesman for Coca-Cola for twenty years. After his retirement in 1977, Bill moved to Munising and purchased Baij’s Bar. Mr. Bill’s became a popular hangout for locals and made the best pizzas around. He moved to Wisconsin in 1982. Bill was a member of the American Legion and in his younger years enjoyed golfing, deer and bird hunting, and gardening. As the years went on, he enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and small animals. Bill loved his cat, Mr. Kitty, and “his” dog, Rocco, and enjoyed spoiling and playing with them.
Bill is survived by his daughters – Susan Chatt-Burkhalter of Gwinn and Lori (Carl Sanford) Stewart of Munising; longtime companion and girlfriend – Ann Rousseau and her daughter and son-in-law Cam and Greg Johnson; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven Chatt and sisters Margaret Miniter and Dorothy Dedrich.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, December 28, 2019. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
