Lorraine Schermer, age 83, of AuTrain, Michigan and formerly of Iaeger, West Virginia, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising, Michigan, with her loving family at her side. She was born on February 13, 1931 in Avondale, West Virginia to the late James and Hatti (Waldron) Dawson. She married Donald Duane Schermer on April 2, 1948 in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and together they raised their three children. Lorraine worked as a secretary at George J. Meyer's Purchasing and Bottling Company. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and watching the wildlife outside her home. Lorraine and Don moved to the Upper Peninsula, where she loved the changing seasons, beautiful scenery, and abundance of nature. Lorraine loved her children and grandchildren above all, there was always an open door for them to come to.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years - Donald D. Schermer of AuTrain; son - Donald (Diane) Schermer of West Bend, WI; daughters - Debbie (Terry) Melcarek of Chippewa Falls, WI and Joyce Tripp of AuTrain; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings - Webb, Clinton, Doug, Carl, Elsie, and Lucille; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents James and Hatti, and her siblings Woody, Ernest, and Jean.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Atwell Cemetery in McDowell County, West Virginia. Date and time of burial will be announced when information is available.
