Alice Mae Heimerman, age 84, formerly of Sand Point Road, died at her home on Crimson Court in Wetmore surrounded by the love of her family and under the special care of North Woods Hospice on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 11:45 p.m. She was born on March 1, 1923 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin to Edward and Gertrude (Helein) Ward. Alice graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1941. She worked in Beaver Dam during WWII as a munitions inspector. Alice married R. Eugene Heimerman on September 28, 1948 at Holy Cross Church in Kaukauna. They lived in the Fox Valley area and transferred to the Kimberly Clark Munising Mill in 1966. Alice was an active and faithful member of Sacred Heart Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul Society, ministered to the nursing home residents, served at funeral luncheons, and was a member of St. Anthony's Guild, St. Bridget's Circle, and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Alice was a member of the Pictured Rocks Golf Course, Munising Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Alger County Historical Society, and served on the Board of Canvassers. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, knitting, and was a dedicated volunteer for the Scott Cromell and ARCF Memorial Golf Tournaments. Alice enjoyed her computer and was an avid Munising Mustang supporter. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and loved cheering on the Packers, Pistons, and Tigers.

Alice is survived by her four children - Mary (Richard) Bowerman of Wetmore, Gail (Timothy) Flynn of Milan, IL, Richard (Marcy) Heimerman of Munising, and Karen (Thomas) Summit of Rowley, MA; 12 grandchildren - Allison (Buzz), Glenda, Jessica (Seth), Rick (Renee), Shannon, Patrick (Tara), Cassie, Ame', Joey, Haylee, Jake, and Maggie; great-grandchildren - Brett, Daryn, Lathan, Mallory, and Avery; numerous nieces and nephews; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband of over forty-three years,Gene, her parents, and her brother Wilbert "Koby" Kobussen.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner at Sacred Heart Church in Munising on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 12:10 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery and her grandchildren will escort her.
