Barbara Ann Bauer, age 81, of Munising and formerly of Covington, Texas died at home on Friday, September 19, 2025 under the loving care of her family and North Woods Home Hospice. She was born on February 5, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Karl and Barbara (Zeller) Haller. Barbara grew up in Brooklyn before moving with her family to Hauppauge, Long Island. While working as a dental assistant in her brother-in-law’s dentist’s office, Barbara met Francis Bauer at the Pittsfield, MA, Seventh-day Adventist church. They were married on August 25, 1963. Barbara started raising their small family in Cheshire, Massachusetts, before eventually moving to Allamuchy, New Jersey. Fran and Barbara then moved to Longwood, Florida, where Barbara started working as a secretary at Florida Hospital. She worked her way up the ranks to became the manager of corporate health, where her department provided medical services for many large corporations, including Disney. Barbara retired from Florida Hospital after working there for over twenty years. In retirement, they moved to Texas to be close to family and grandchildren. Barbara was a talented piano player who gave lessons and played for church services. She also loved real-estate and building houses, and worked for a time as a licensed agent with her daughter, Rondi, at ReMax Superiorland. Barbara was also an active lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She donated her time in various pursuits such as teaching cooking classes and leading out in vacation Bible schools.
Barbara is survived by her husband of sixty-two years – Fran Bauer; children – Melodie (Jim) Furbish Salter, Bret (Lucy) Bauer, Rondi (Kurt) Olson, and Jessica (Seth) Strickland; many grand and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents – Karl and Barbara; and sisters – Ruth Haller and Eleanor (Bert) Beisigel.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 4, at 5:00 PM, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Munising. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
