Obituary

Barbara Joan Fillmore, beloved wife and Mom, age 90, of AuTrain, Michigan and formerly of Otisville, Michigan died at her home in AuTrain under the loving care of her family and North Woods Home Hospice. She was born on April 10, 1936 in Flint, Michigan to the late Benedict “Ben” and Elizabeth “Becky” (Marzonie) Grimes. Barb grew up in Flint and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1954. She went to St. Joseph School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1957. Barb met Ellis “Duke” Fillmore and the two of them were married on October 21, 1961. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital until she and Duke started raising their family. Barb cherished being a homemaker, raising her daughters and supporting them in Job’s Daughters while she was in the Order of the Eastern Star and the Lioness Club. As her girls got older, Barb went back to nursing and worked in private care and at nursing homes before retiring in 1990. In retirement, Barb and Duke moved to the family camp on AuTrain Lake and made it their permanent home. She loved reading, planning for the holidays, organizing family gatherings, and sharing her home with family and friends. Barb enjoyed working in her garden and caring for their yard and was always quick to clean up the leaves.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years – Duke Fillmore of AuTrain; daughters – AnnMarie Fillmore of Irving, TX and Kathy (Jerry) Goodrich of Genesee, MI; grandson – Carson Goodrich of Genesee; sister – Dianne Lewis of Flint; special niece – Brenda (Kevin) Wilson of Flint; sister-in-law – Anita Grimes of Owosso, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
