Becky Jean Hill-Johnson

Becky Jean Hill-Johnson, age 62, of Munising, died with her loving husband at her side on Sunday afternoon, August 2, 2026 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born on January 22, 1964 in Munising to the late Bernie and Harriet (Brill) Hill. Becky grew up in Chatham and during high school worked for the Conservation Department. She attended high school in Eben and went to work for years at Timber Products. Becky went to Bay de Noc College and earned her Certified Nurse Assistant certification. She used those skills to care for her family and friends who needed help. Becky spent another career taking care of people at restaurants and bars in the area including the Bear Trap, Village Pub, and Foggy’s. While working at the Pub, she met Brady Johnson in 2001 and they became fast friends and more. They were married on October 9, 2014. In the early 2000’s, Becky was diagnosed as a Type I brittle diabetic, and she always handled her disease and illness with grace, humor, love, and perseverance. In 2005, she was a recipient of a pancreas at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Her health was restored for years. In 2015, after battling with kidney failure, she was a kidney and pancreas recipient for UW- Madison. She had been airlifted four times to Madison and the hospital and staff were so wonderful. It was fitting and comforting to both Becky and Brady that she died in their care.

Becky has spent years working at Foggy’s as a waitress and manager of the restaurant and bar – but NOT the kitchen. She loved Shaun and Chad St. Amour and their families as her own. As far as employers, she held them in the highest regard and with love. Becky was a passionate fan of the Detroit Lions football team. She loved to travel and vacation with her niece, Coby, and they had many wonderful adventures together. Becky loved the sun and she loved the boat. She would do anything for her dogs, Adolf, Ruger, and Zeba. Have we mentioned her truck? Becky LOVED her truck. She enjoyed playing softball and she and Brady enjoyed vacationing in Florida. They also worked hard on their second home in Granite Bluff where Brady and his family are from.

Becky was known for her extraordinary durability and overall toughness. She looked you in the eye and appreciated no BS, and if she saw it, she would tell you. Becky was a genuine and beautiful soul with a warrior’s spirit.

She is survived by her husband – Brady Johnson; their son – Donny and Brady’s son – Brandon; three grandchildren – Eli, Ella, and Brayha; brothers – Norbert “Nub” Hill, Kim (Julie) Hill, and Reino (Sissy) Hill; her “sister” – Sherry (George) Karvinen-Swauger – nieces and nephews – Coby, Nova, Amanda, Chelsie, Ayes, Diane, Jennifer, Brooke, Samantha, Justyn, Billy, Bjorn, Brent, Robbie, Breanna, Melissa, Kate, Peter, Jesse, and Michael; great nieces and nephews; in-laws on Brady’s side of the family – Bill (Debbie) Johnson, Mike (Melody) Johnson, Kristine (Mike) VanEycke, and Lorri (Joe) Fiera; godmother-in-law – Wilma Hill; and numerous cousins. Becky was preceded in death by her parents – Bernie and Harriet, sister – Ella “Duff” Hill, nephew – Rydan Swauger; parents-in-law – Bill and Lois Johnson, and godfather – Bruce Hill who she dearly loved.

Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. At 1:00 p.m. there will be a time for sharing of stories and memories. A celebration of life will also be announced for a later date.
