Bertha Methot, age 86, of 608 W. Superior Street, Munising, died on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at 5:50 p.m. at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on February 1, 1920 in Munising to Saul and Fannie (Tanskala) Mattson. Bertha graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1938. She married Reino Peramaki on June 14, 1941. Reino preceded Bertha in death in death in 1944. She worked and cared for her young children. On January 24, 1948, Bertha married Leon "Leo" Methot and together they raised four children. They were married over fifty-six years when Leo preceded her in death on December 10, 2004. Bertha worked for the Alger County Road Commission, the Munising Medical Center, and then for Raikko's Insurance Agency. Bertha was a member of the Eden Lutheran Church; she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a member of the Alger County Historical Society. She and Leo enjoyed bowling in the Sunday night couple's league and they loved to golf. Bertha also enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.
She is survived by four children - Michael (Nancy) Peramaki of Gwinn, Patricia (Philip) LaCombe of Marquette, Lawrence "Lorn" (Sharon) Methot of Munising, and Warren Methot of Munising; grandchildren - Matthew, Becky, Jeff, Todd, Grant, David, Craig, Kim, and Miles; great-grandchildren - Michaela, Madeline, Micaiah, Josiah, Kaya, Chase, and Eva; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reino and their son Peter Peramaki, husband Leo, and a sister Sylvia Jorensen.
A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard at the Eden Lutheran Church in Munising on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
