Cecelia “CeCe” (Kolbusz) Walkiewicz died Monday, October 27, 2025 at House of Angels in Troy,
Michigan surrounded by love. CeCe was born November 22, 1930 in Munising Michigan to the late
Joseph & Apollonia “Pauline” (Galus) Kolbusz.
CeCe is the youngest daughter and at 94 years of age was the last remaining child of ten siblings. CeCe graduated from Mather High School in 1949 and continued lifelong friendships with many of her classmates reuniting with them for Fourth of July activities in Munising.
CeCe grew up on the Tannery Hill family farm. She recalled many fond memories of a simple
charmed farm life spent with her siblings mostly happily (but not always happily) doing farm chores
and baking pies. Throughout her life, CeCe has had a special fondness for the Munising falls which
her family owned. As a child, CeCe washed clothes and took showers in the falls which adjoins the
family farm. CeCe’s brother Joseph maintained the Munising Falls as a tourist attraction until its
accession into the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park in the early 1970’s.
CeCe married the late Alfred (Fritz) Walkiewicz in 1952 moving to Detroit and eventually
Hamtramck where she co-owned Hamtramck’s Blue Jay Inn Bar on Joseph Campau with her
husband’s family. CeCe and Fritz were active members of Saint Florian Parish where their four
children attended school. In the late 1990’s, CeCe sold Blue Jay Inn and moved to Chesterfield
Township.
In Chesterfield Township as a retiree, CeCe participated in the Chesterfield Seniors, Red Hats and
many volunteer opportunities. At her Lottivue condo, she frequently hosted friends for game parties
of Mexican Train and Rummy. As her friends aged, CeCe was happy to lend a helping hand and
provide transportation to social gatherings, doctor appointments and functions at Saint Mary
Queen of Creation Catholic Church.
In the summers, CeCe could be found picking wild berries and baking pies in the cabin her
husband built on the family’s land in Munising. CeCe’s cabin door was always open for family and
friends to drop in for a chat. CeCe enjoyed years of volunteering at the Munising St. Vincent de
Paul’s resale store and at the Alger County Commission on Aging.
CeCe’s greatest joy was spending time with her siblings, many nieces and nephews and her family.
She is survived by her four children: Fred, Joseph (Anne Marie), Sandra (Kevin), John (Holly) six
grandchildren: David, Erica, Kristen, Lauren, Leah, Julianne and six great-grandchildren: David Jr.,
Kaylee, Brendan, Madison, Dominic and Jaxson.
CeCe was fun, spicy and 4cute all of her 94 years. We hope CeCe is eating a huge bowl of butter
pecan ice cream while strolling the aisles of her favorite Dollar Store. We imagine her continuing to
enjoy a barefoot walk on the shores of Munising Bay and her cabin property. Rest in peace. Your
work is over and was well done.
Interment will take place at 11am on November 25 at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. A summer
2026 Celebration of Life will be planned for Munising MI.
