Christopher Jon Martinez

Christopher Jon Martinez, age 61, of Prunedale, California and formerly of Rumely, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 31, 2025. He was born on March 24, 1964 in Okinawa, Japan to Eusebio S. Martinez and Sharon Freberg. Christopher grew up in Lancaster, California and in Alger County. He graduated from Eben High School in 1983. Christopher attended Northern Michigan University and then moved back to California to pursue a career in framing construction. He was trained in and very involved in prison ministry in California. Christopher was devoted to God and enjoyed the outdoors and camping.

He is survived by his mother – Sharon Freberg; sons –Brandon and Dillon Martinez; daughter – Chrystian Ciara Martinez; sisters – Sr. Ana Maria and Petra (Munawwar) Martinez-Ali; nephew – Aiden Ali-Martinez; and numerous aunts, uncles, and, cousins. Christopher was preceded in death by his father Eusebio Martinez and his brother Adam Martinez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising, Michigan. Interment will be at the Mathias Township Cemetery in Trenary, Michigan.
