Connee J. (Ward) Fejer, age 52, of Shelby Township and formerly of Munising, died unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, December 31, 2007 at the Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Troy after battling invasive inflammatory breast cancer. Connee was born on June 8, 1955 in Munising to the late Frank "Jim" and Mary Jane (Chevrette) Ward. Connee graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1973 and Central Michigan University with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1977. She taught and coached girls' basketball in Stephenson, MI for two years before moving to the Clinton Township area to teach at Chippewa Valley High School. Connee married Paul Fejer on July 17, 1982. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1989. Widowed at age 34, Connee raised their two daughters and continued to teach. She taught at CVHS for thirty-two years before retiring in 2005. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Clemens, Michigan Education Association, and National Education Association. Connee loved ceramics, knitting, gardening, flowers, and traveling; and she was a caregiver to everyone she knew.
Connee is survived by her daughters - Laura Fejer (attending Central Michigan University) and Alyssa Fejer (attending Grand Valley State University) both of Shelby Township; her brothers and sisters-in-law - Dave and Mary Ward of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Rick and Carolyn Ward of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; nieces and nephews - Jim, Kristen, Tricia, Jon, Maury, Brad, and Samantha; and her dear friend and neighbor - Debbie Romzek of Shelby Township. Connee was preceded in death by her husband Paul and parents Jim and Mary Jane.
Visitation will be held at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home in Utica, Michigan on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, January 5, 2008, visitation and a funeral service will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will conduct Connee's funeral service in the funeral home's chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring. Honorary escorts will be Connee's nieces and nephews.
Memorials in memory of Connee may be directed to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or the Beverly Family Foundation for Breast Cancer.
