Dale A. Cornish, age 70, of Wetmore, died following a brief illness on Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2026 at UPHS in Marquette. He was born in Munising on December 3, 1955 to the late Fred and Edna (Stigall) Cornish, Sr. Dale grew up in Wetmore and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1974. He married Patty Saylor and together they raised their two children. Dale worked at Timber Products and retired as a Sawmill Foreman after over 40 years of employment. Retirement never really slowed him down. Most days, you could find him in the garage working on vehicles or making cutting boards, sitting on his deck looking out at the lake, fishing, playing cribbage or dice, or helping friends and family whenever they needed a hand.
Dale was tenacious, independent, generous, and fiercely loyal. He loved his family deeply and wasn’t afraid to tell you exactly what he thought.
Dale and Pam LeVeque shared a bond that always brought them back together. They supported each other over three decades and together they enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, making maple syrup, “hunting” mushrooms, and berry picking.
He especially loved sitting on the deck looking out at the lake, usually with a cigarette. Almost every visit, he’d say, “Hear that?”
I’d ask, “Hear what?”
And he’d smile and say, “Exactly.”
Dale had a great sense of humor and was a bit of a jokester who could always make people smile. Above all, he was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, partner, and friend. His family will remember his strength, his willingness to help others, and the way he always showed up when he was needed.
Dale is survived by his longtime partner, Pamela LeVeque; his children, Cynthia Wheatley and Mike Cornish; his grandchildren, Annabel, Alex, Henry, James, Alice, and Sophia; his sister, Delores “Dory” Reed; his brother and sister-in-law, Fred Jr. “Skeet” and Carolyn “Tarry” Cornish; his brother, Leroy Cornish; sister-in-law – Linda Schwake; his nieces and nephews, Bill and Jen Cornish, Shannan and John Davis, Lisa and Ken Mattson, and Kati and Scott Adams; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Jason Cornish, Maci and Dylan Cornish, Jessey and Andrew Adams, and Aerwyn and Rhedyn Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna Cornish, and his brother, Jesse Cornish.
The family would like to thank UP Health System, the doctors, nurses, and staff for their care and support, as well as the many friends and family members who visited, called, prayed, and offered support during this difficult time.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026. Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Dale’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore.
