Munising
Daniel Joseph Walther, age 51, of Munising, passed away on Friday, May 30th, 2025, at University of Madison-Wisconsin hospital due to ongoing health conditions. Dan was born the youngest of eight children to William G. Walther and Particia A. (Seger) Walther on September 9th, 1973 in Lake Orion, Michigan. Dan grew up in AuTrain, MI and attended Munising High School, graduating in 1991. He worked for his Dad in the family business “Walther Construction” during and after high school. He married Brenda L. (Stein) Walther on May 18th, 1996, and they were married for 28 years. That same year he started working for Kimberly Clark Corp and was employed there for 25 years. Dan and Brenda lived in Marquette for the first 3 years of their marriage while Dan commuted to Munising. In 2001, Dan and Brenda decided to move back to Munising to start their family and take on the task of running the Alger Falls Motel. In December, 2002, they welcomed their daughter Alexis Noel Walther and in July, 2005, they welcomed their son Blake Daniel Walther. Together they worked and raised their family in Munising. Dan loved to hunt, fish on his boat, take family vacations to Florida, play cribbage with his dad, play poker with his friends, and see all his family at countless weddings and get-togethers. Dan had a huge passion for Detroit sports. Specifically, the Detroit Lions and Red Wings. Every Sunday you could catch him cheering on the Lions & yelling at the TV as if they really could hear him through the screen. Hockey season was basically considered a 7 month long holiday in the Walther household. Dan never missed one of his kid’s sporting events. Whether he was in the stands or coaching one of Blake's hockey games, watching his baseball and football games, or playing the role of cheer dad at Alexis’ cheer competitions, he always was front row supporting the children he loved so much. If you knew Dan, you’d know that he was always a silly beam of happiness and was willing to help out anyone, whether that be a friend or a stranger. In the last years of his life his illness slowed him down, but he never lost sight of what was important to him and the people he loved.
Dan is survived by his two children- Alexis Walther of Munising, MI, and Blake Walther of Munising, MI; his father- William Walther of Munising, MI; his seven siblings- Teresa Stearns of Topeka, KS, William “Bill” (Liz) Walther, Jr. of Titusville, FL, David (Kathy) Walther of AuTrain, MI, Mary (Dean) Walther-Johnson of AuTrain, MI, Michelle Reynolds of Appleton, WI, Melissa (Todd) Osmond of Burlington, Ontario, and Jennifer Walther of Marquette, MI; his nieces and nephews - Kenneth, Hollie, Katrina, Victoria, Olivia, Ryan, Hayden, Madison, Cassandra, Jennifer, Jason, Jordan, Jessica, Jasmine, Lauren (Johnson), Ethan, and Owen; numerous grandnieces and nephews as well as Brenda’s family. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Walther and his brother-in-law, Walter Reynolds.
