David Kane

Wetmore/Manistique

David Kane, age 63, of Wetmore and formerly of Manistique, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at his home following a lengthy illness.  He was born in Manistique on March 27, 1955 to the late Charles and Dorothy (Scoon) Kane.  David graduated from Manistique High School with the class of 1973.  He started working in the woods as a logger, before joining the Michigan Labor Union.  David worked for many years for Subsurface Constructors Inc., he operated a boring machine to run pipe and cables under roadways and construction sites.  David met the love of his life Debbie Gray, and together they have spent over thirty years together.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but spending time with and watching baseball, basketball, and concerts of his grandchildren brought him the most joy.  David told his family that when he first became a grandfather, it was what motivated him to strive to become a better man.

He is survived by his wife – Debbie of Wetmore; children – Sarah (Travis) Murk, JoAnne (Kyle) Tembreull, and Brian Thompson; grandchildren – Kelsey, Riley, Avery, Payton, Taylor, and Malachi; siblings – Chuck Kane of Manistique, Nancy Rochefort of Escanaba, Cheryl Kane of Manistique, Harry Kane of Coleman, MI, Candy (Ron) Morton of Marinette, WI, and Wendy Kane of Manistique; sister-in-law – Rita Kane-LaVance; lifelong friend and nephew – Ben Joslin; close friend – Randy Demars; numerous nieces and nephews; and dog – Peanut.  David was preceded in death by his parents, siblings – Lois Kane, Pat Kane, Sandy (Doug) Collins, Becky Kane, infant brother Terry Kane; and sister-in-law – Carol Kane.

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.  Rev. Sandra Kolder will conduct David’s funeral service at 3:00 p.m.
