Derek Paul Lindstrom, age 60, of Sundell, entered eternal life on Monday morning, March 9, 2026 at UP Health System – Marquette after a short illness. Derek was born on April 22, 1965 in Marquette, as son of Edward of Marion (Grimes) Lindstrom. He graduated from the Eben High School Class of 1983. Derek was known for his expertise in mechanics. He worked as a bus driver until 1986 and then went to work at ABC True Value as a mechanic until 1994. Derek was a truck driver for Smeester Brothers in Iron Mountain until 1997. He then went to work with Gerou Excavating in Wetmore for twenty-nine years as a truck driver and mechanic until his death. On August 8, 1997, Derek married Janice Vanderhoff. Although they divorced in the 1990’s, she was the love of his life and they had a strong and loving friendship through the years.
Derek is survived by Janice Lindstrom of Gladstone; their two sons – Edward Scott “Scottie” Lindstrom of Gwinn and Robert Michael Lindstrom of Gladstone; brothers – Mark (Sherri) Lindstrom of Upton, WY and Gary Lindstrom of Rock; sister – Alicia (Dewayne) Wasson of MI; two aunts – Betty Lindstrom of Westport, MA and Fran Lindstrom of Austin, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Edward in 2018, mother Marion in 2019, and uncle Ronald Lindstrom in 2003.
Underneath his gruff exterior, Derek was a kind and compassionate man. He was generous with his time and help he gave to others. Derek will be greatly missed by his loved ones, his friends, and his cat, Zena.
There will be a graveside in McFarland at a later date.
