Dianne Fleck, age 74, of Munising, died following a brief illness on Tuesday morning, July 16, 2024 under the loving care of Fred, her family, and North Woods Hospice. She was born on April 24, 1950, in Munising to loving parents Adolph “Duff” and Amelia “Amy” (Wenzel) Fleck. Dianne grew up in Munising and she was a member of the exclusive “Jewell Street Tigers.” Dianne graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1968. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Northern Michigan University in 1972. Dianne taught remedial reading, math for grades 1st through 8th, and 2nd grade for many years in the Munising Public Schools. She made a huge difference in the lives of the children she taught. Dianne retired in 2002 with 30 years of dedication and experience. She enjoyed sports that included tennis, skiing, swimming, golf, and especially playing 1st base for the Pepper’s Slo-pitch Team. Dianne was a one-time winner of the Pictured Rocks Golf Club women’s club championship. Dianne loved reading, knitting, quilting, crocheting, learning new crafts, and writing letters. Her many letters written to family and friends were often written in calligraphy, a skill she taught herself. She even taught knitting to the second and third graders. Her quilts are prized possessions of family and friends. Dianne often gifted quilts for milestone occasions like the birth of a child or marriage. She also gifted quilts to members of the community in their moment of need during the loss or a loved one or cancer diagnosis. Dianne was an active participant in the Stake the Lake Fundraiser for cancer. Dianne was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Mary Magdalene Circle, Lake Superior Craft Guild, Water Aerobics, Curves, Kiwanis, Busy Bees, and Wetmore Community Club. One of her most cherished past times was having coffee with friends. She also enjoyed riding in her red 1979 Volkswagen Beetle, and in more recent years spending time on Au Train Lake at her camp she coined the “Hen House.”
