Ebba “Pat” Ellen Ghan, age 84, of Marquette, died peacefully at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans on Monday evening, January 18, 2016.   She was born on July 18, 1931 in Munising to the late Antti and Elli (Lehtoranta) Sinervo.  Ebba graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1949. She enlisted into the U.S. Army on February 16, 1950 and served as a medical technician.  Ebba was honorably discharged on August 31, 1951.  She married Clyde Ghan and they had five children.  Ebba worked hard to raise her family.  She worked for the AMCAB/Head Start programs in Marquette as a field placement officer.  While working, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from NMU and graduated Cum Laude.  Ebba continued to work for the program as the head social worker and retired in 1990.   She and her lifelong friend, Don Mercil, shared a companionship for twenty-one years and together they enjoyed traveling and spending their time in Oconto and Florida.  Ebba was creative and enjoyed painting, crafting, and quilting.  She always enjoyed and treasured her time with her family at their camp on Twin Lake.

She is survived by four children – Cathy Pratt of Montana, Roberta “Bobbie” (Pat) Cleary of Marquette, Michael Ghan of Mt. Everett, WA, and Constance “Connie” (Doug) Ludwig of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren – Robbie, Cortney, Chad, Alan Michael, Alana, Kristy, and Brook; great-grandchildren – Caydence, Charlotte, Carter, Cully, Bailee, Sayge, Leland, Leah, and Cole; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Ebba was preceded in death by parents, daughter Patty Ann Ghan, son-in-law Rick Pratt, sister Dorothy (Waino) Knuttila; brother Eugene (Dorothy) Sinervo; an infant brother; and dear friend Don Mercil.
