Traunik
Edwina Pauline Knaus, age 80, of H - 44, Traunik, died following a lengthy illness on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 5:25 p.m. at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born in Wetmore on March 14, 1927 to Edmund and Ora (Carier) Allie. Edwina graduated from Sacred Heart School and then from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1945. She worked at Atlas Plywood, and then on July 23, 1951, Edwina married Frank Knaus. They moved to the Traunik area where she was a homemaker and raised their five children. Edwina also cared of other children in her home during that time. She and Frank were married twenty-three years when he preceded her in death on April 4, 1975. Edwina's life truly changed at the death of her husband. She learned to drive and care for her own home while continuing to raise her younger children. Edwina went to work at Superior Shores as a dietary aide in their kitchen. She worked there over ten years. Edwina volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center and wherever help was needed. She was an active and faithful member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Trenary and she cleaned the church for many decades. She enjoyed walking, watching sunsets, and her children lovingly called her a "thrift store addict." Edwina truly enjoyed people. She knew and remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and the births of other people's children. Although shy and soft-spoken, she really enjoyed being with people.
Edwina is survived by her five children - Linda Knaus of Traunik, Sharilyn Knaus of San Salvador, El Salvador, Mark (Joyce) Knaus of Traunik, Robert "Bob" (Nancy) Knaus of Clearfield, Utah, and Mary (Kerry) Noble of Marquette; grandchildren - Lisa (Jon) Gaines, Aaron Knaus, Eric and Travis Knaus, and Lauren, Lindsey, Michael, and Megan Noble; great-grandson - Marshall Andrew Gaines; sisters - Pat Allie of Munising, Bernadine "Bing" Allie of Munising, Ora Diem of Dearwood, MN, and Fran Brauns of Comstock Park, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
