Elaine Florence (Stenzel) Stangel

Munising

Elaine Florence Stangel, age 93, of Munising, died on Sunday evening, May 14, 2017 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising.  She was born on October 15, 1923 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Walter and Alma Stenzel.  Elaine graduated from Manitowoc High School.  She married her high school sweetheart, W.G. “Joe” Stangel, on February 24, 1945 while Joe was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.  Elaine was a homemaker and raised her sons.  The family moved to Munising in 1954.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the women’s guild.  Elaine was an avid reader, and she and Joe enjoyed spending time together and camping.  They were married over sixty-three years when he preceded her in death on February 20, 2008.

Elaine is survived by her three sons – Jim “Ball” (Carol) Stangel of Munising, Dave (Nancy) Stangel of Oklahoma City, OK, and Steve Stangel of Portage, WI; grandchildren – Jen, Joey (Melissa Sadler), and Jess; two great-grandchildren – Garrett and Paige and one on the way; and four nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, brother Jerome Stenzel, and sister Jeanette Mathias.

Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.   Father Chris Gardiner will conduct the committal prayers.
