Eli Joseph DesArmo, age 88, of 221 E. Chocolay Street, Munising, died at 8:40 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2006, with his family around him at Marquette General Hospital. Eli was born September 12, 1918, to the late Eli and Mary DesArmo in Dollarville, MI. He was in the Trenary chools until he entered the United State Navy in August of 1943. Eli served in the South Pacific Theater during WWII. Eli married Norma Budtke on August 9, 1958. He worked at Kimberly Clark for many years as a Shipping Clerk. Eli loved spending his time outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and going on the many family camping trips to Canada and the many lakes of the UP. Eli also loved spending time in his garden. He made sure to grow plenty of veggies so he could share them with his neighbors, and anything Eli had left, he would take to his kitchen to make his unduplicated pasties.
Eli is survived by his wife of 48 years - Norma DesArmo, of Munising, his children - David (Roseanne) DesArmo of Anchorage, AK, Mary Lou (Cary "Ket") Paulsen of Munising, and Paula (Allen) Hurtubise of Shawano, WI, grandchildren - Stephanie, Eli, and Sabrina of Anchorage, Lori of Munising, Shawna of Venice, FL, Jennifer (Dom) of Detroit, and Jeff of Fresno, CA. six great-grandchildren - Chelsey, Mark, Roseann, Powers, Paris, and Sydnei. Eli was preceded in death by his first wife - Esther, his son - Gary, daughter-in-law - Sharon, grandson - Tommy Bugg, and his 11 brothers and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, 2006, at the Bowerman Funeral Home, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. where the Alger County Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
