Eugene L. “Gene” Munn, age 82, of Sleepy Hollow, IL passed away on December 20, 2016. Gene was born on November 15, 1934 in Rockford, IL to Eugene E. and Ardith (Methot) Munn. Gene attended Detroit Barber College, started his own business and settled in the Detroit, MI area where he married Mary Kiffner on December 29, 1956. Together, they raised five children. Gene also worked for Western & Southern Life Insurance Company for many years.
As a boy, Gene spent many summers and winters fishing the mouth of the Anna River, hunting and visiting his many aunts, uncles and cousins located in the area. In later years, Gene and Mary spent many 4th of July holidays in Munising and Au Train always paying a visit to the Corktown Bar owned by his father at that time.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, Eugene and Ardith, and his only brother Jack.
He is survived by his sons Eugene (Regina), Timothy (Toni), and Brian Munn, his daughters Cynthia (Steven) Sipperley, and Loretta (Linus) Couturier, his grandsons Michael, Matthew, Colin, Kyle, Justin and Noel, his granddaughters Diana (Paul) Doro, Lea (Luke) Byron, Kirstin, Larissa, Alanna, and Cassandra, great-grandsons Garrett, Jack and Robert, great-granddaughter Gracie, Aunties Geri and Edith Methot and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Bowerman Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Fr. Chris Gardiner will conduct Gene’s committal prayers at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising, MI.
