Florence "Flo" Catherine (Murphy) LaTour

Chatham

Florence “Flo” C. LaTour, age 78, of Chatham, died early Friday morning, December 21, 2018 at the Medilodge in Munising.  She was born on January 6, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Michael and Florence (Raphael) Murphy.  As a young girl, her family moved to Evergreen Shores in St. Ignace.  Flo married John Frank LaTour on April 28, 1962 and together they raised their three children living on Mackinac Island and in St. Ignace and the Gladstone areas.  The family moved to Chatham in 1978 and Flo worked over thirty years at the Chatham Co-op where she was affectionately known as “The Hardware Lady.”  Flo was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.  She enjoyed playing Bingo, cheering on the Detroit Tigers, and decorating her home for the holiday seasons.  Flo also enjoyed quiet time at her home with her dog, Bailey.

She is survived by her daughter – Kathy (Todd) Archambeau of Rapid River; son – Sid (Heather) St. Onge of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren – Randee (Tim) Rintamaki of Delavan, WI, Kelly Norberg of Marquette, Jordan Norberg of Ypsilanti, Skye (Gabe) Migda of Gwinn, and Daniel LaTour of Kingsford; three great-grandchildren – Jaimes Rintamaki and Quinn and Indie Migda; sisters – Marie DeLine of Fostoria, MI and Connie Mayer of Rudyard, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.   Flo was preceded in death by her parents, husband John on July 19, 1992, their son John Frank LaTour, Jr., sister Patricia (Earl) Bashor, and brothers-in-law – Kenneth “Poncho” DeLine and Francis Mayer.

Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Thursday, December 27, 2018.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.   Father Chris Gardiner will conduct Flo’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel at 11:00 a.m.  Graveside services will be at the St. Ignatius Cemetery in St. Ignace on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
