Frances Irene (Allie) Brauns

January 18, 1932 — November 7, 2015

Frances Irene (Allie) Brauns, age 83, of Ishpeming, died peacefully in her daughter's arms at 3:53 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming. Frances was a previous resident of Negaunee, Grand Rapids, Yucaipa, CA, Ypsilanti, and Munising. She was born on January 18, 1932 in Munising to the late Edmund and Ora (Carrier) Allie. Frances graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1949 and attended business college at the Washtenaw County Community College. She married Kurt O. Brauns and together they had three children. Frances was a homemaker and went to work when her children were teenagers. She worked as a secretary at Eastern Michigan University, an insurance company, and WAAM radio in Ann Arbor. She was a member of the P.T.A. Extension Club. Frances was proud to be Catholic. She enjoyed nature and enjoyed time hiking and fishing. Frances liked to come home to Munising to be with family and she was an excellent cook and baker. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be loved and missed forever by her children.

She is survived by her daughter - Deniece Anaya of Negaunee; sons - Kurt (Rosemary) Brauns of Houma, LA and Michael Brauns of Tucson, AZ; grandson - Kurt Calvin (Mindy) Brauns of Houma, LA; four great-grandchildren - Kurt Christian, Trey Joseph, Colt Calvin, and Alaya Sue; sisters - Pat Allie of Munising and Ora Diem of White Bear Lake, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Lauriel Olson, Lorraine Porter, Edmund Allie, Marilyn Steinhoff, Genevieve Allie, Gerald Allie, Raymond Allie, Bernadine "Bing" Allie, and Edwina Knaus.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner of Friday, July 29, 2016 at 12:10 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising.  Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. Frances' family would like to thank the staff at MCMCF in Ishpeming for her wonderful care.
