Gary David Ackley

Gary David Ackley, age 72, of Munising, died on Saturday evening, July 25, 2026 at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Hospice. Gary was born in Manistique on September 6, 1953 to the late Lester and Donnela (Mallard) Ackley. He grew up in the Newberry and Curtis areas. Gary graduated from Newberry High School in 1973 He worked as a police officer while living in Curtis and then started driving semi-trucks. Gary worked for others but eventually owned and operated his own semi. He worked for many companies and drove across North America. Gary retired when he was sixty-two. He married Diana Vining on August 17, 1996 and they enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home. Gary loved fishing and also enjoyed camping.

He is survived by his wife of almost thirty years – Diana Ackley; children – Leigh Anne (Brian) LuHellier, Kevin (Danae) Selby, and Justin (Candice) Ackley; daughters-in-law – Becca Ackley and Samantha “Sammy” Ackley; stepsons – Timothy (Tracy) Moore, Jr., Matthew Moore, and Jason (Crystal) Moore; grandchildren – Trevor, Dylan, Caleb, Makenna, Hannah, Brent Jr., Kali, Wells, Oscar, Julian, Ella, Halle, Mackenzie, and Daisy; great-grandson – Lincoln; sisters – Christine (Jack) Musselman, Denise McLaren, and Gail (Bill) Ketola; brother – Guy (Kathy) Ackley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents – Lester and Donnela; sons – David and Brent Ackley; and brothers – Lester, Wayne, and Virgil Ackley.

Private family services will be held.
