George Boravich passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at his home in Monrovia, CA. He was born March 9, 1955 in Marquette, Michigan to Olga Alexandra Boravich (Barnacky) and Nicholas Thomas Boravich. George grew up on a small farm in a rural community in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. As a child, he spent hours playing in the woods with his two beagle puppies, Buster and Wiener. He also loved Dr. Seuss books, fishing, and swimming in the creeks & ponds while catching bugs & tadpoles. In his early teens, George began taking guitar lessons. He and his friends started a band and performed in local bars and for various community events. While in high school, George was also responsible for major farm tasks, as his parents worked other jobs. He was a high achiever and an honor student. He attended community college in Lansing, MI, and then worked at the Empire open-pit iron ore mine in the Marquette Iron Range. However, his goal was to move to California to pursue the music career he dreamed about.
In 1976, George bought a van and headed to California. His first job was at the Pasadena Power Plant as a Millwright. There, he found a computer and not only taught himself to use it, but also wrote a program to manage the maintenance of various equipment throughout the plant. George eventually started his own McIntosh consulting and service business called MacAdvance, and his business flourished for over 40 years with excellent reviews. George attended the Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, where he gained a solid foundation in music. While there, he strengthened his self-confidence to accomplish his goals, and soon began establishing solid connections in the music world. George was a freelance bassist in the Los Angeles area. He could play anything – from musical theater to rock ‘n’ roll. Over the years he played with countless bands, including the Down Beat Express, a 17-piece big band ensemble, the Andy Rau Bluegrass Band, which released four albums. He also joined Debbie Reynolds as her bassist for a multi-city tour throughout the U.S. And for over 40 years, George was the Musical Director and bassist for Raymond Michael, known as one of the best Elvis impersonators in United States. In addition to his bass playing, George was also in demand as a writer/arranger of musical charts for all styles of music. In addition to being a professional bassist, George was a music instructor at The Fret House in Covina for over 30 years. He provided his students with a thorough grounding in music theory, skills, and professionalism. Many of his students have gone on to be professional bass players for well-known performers such as Adam Lambert and Cher. No matter what role he fulfilled – computer expert, musician, teacher, arranger or musical director, George was known as a professional who showed respect and kindness toward everyone he came into contact with. And he was also valued and respected by those who knew him and worked with him, too. George established many relationships in the Los Angeles music scene, many of which evolved into friendships and collaborations that have endured over 45 years. He was loved dearly by all, and genuinely admired as a loyal friend and consummate professional.
George is survived by his brother Nicholas Boravich in Rumley, MI; sister Marianne Boravich in Boulder City, NV; niece Marnie Sipila in Chatham, MI; nephew Nathan Boravich in Green Bay, WI, and; Elsa Padres, with whom he had an enduring and committed relationship for over 25 years. George will be cremated and laid to rest in Michigan with his parents.
Two celebrations of life are scheduled, in Monrovia, California and Rumley, Michigan. Details will be announced soon.
