Munising

George D. Harwick, age 85 of Munising and formerly of Novi, Michigan passed on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at UPHS Marquette.  He was born on March 27, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Clarence and Geneva (DeNio) Harwick.  George grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Redford High School in 1954.  He attended Albion College and the University of Michigan.  George served in the U.S. Army as a missile ordnance specialist, working Nike Ajax and Hercules missiles.  He was honorably discharged in 1964.  George married Carlene Clark on December 20, 1964 and together raised their two children.  He worked at Detroit Edison and retired as a substation operator in 1995.  On a camping trip to the Upper Peninsula, George and Carlene found Munising and made it their retirement home.  George loved helping Carlene with her various community projects.  He helped design and create posters, flyers, and booklets for church and many other community activities.  He especially enjoyed being around water, catamaran sailing, and loved the family dogs.  George and Bemi (dog) loved sailing together.  George was talented with computers and music, he enjoyed planning, engineering, and completing building projects.  His daughter says he was the MacGuyver of his workshop, and he was just one of those guys who could figure things out.

George is survived by his loving wife of over fifty-seven years – Carlene Harwick of Munising, Michigan;  son – Peter Clark (Liz) Harwick of Warren, Michigan; and daughter – Lynda Kay Harwick of Haslett, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
