Munising
Gloria Kay Klomparens, age 68, of Munising, died following a lengthy illness on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Harbour View Assisted Living under the loving care of it’s staff, North Woods Hospice, and friends. Gloria was born on June 5, 1957 in Fremont, Michigan to the late James and Barbara (DeWispelaere) Klinger. She graduated from Newago High School in 1975. At her father’s urging, she took a job with Social Security right after high school. She was eventually the branch manager in Ludington, Michigan and retired from the Social Security Administration, receiving numerous recognitions and awards. Gloria married Charlie Klomparens, and after she was widowed, she moved to Munising to be closer to family and to enjoy the beauty of the Upper Peninsula. Despite having nice homes in Lower Michigan, she always said her condo in Munising was her dream home. Gloria enjoyed going out to eat and had a sweet tooth like no other. She enjoyed trips to the casino, Huron Mountain Bakery, and Big Boy. Gloria was part of the Munising Baptist Church where she enjoyed the companionship, sermons, and pot lucks. She always greeted her friends and family by saying, “What’s happening?” Diagnosed years ago with essential tremors, Gloria didn’t let that slow her down and through her determination was able to stay home much longer than the doctors predicted. When her health allowed, she enjoyed spending time in Arizona during the winter months. Gloria loved lighthouses and had her home filled with pictures and figurines. She was a very generous person. A special thank you to the caring staff at Harbour View for the love and care they have provided.
Gloria is survived by her brother-in-law John Rasmussen, nephews John (Linda) and Charlie (Star) Rasmussen, numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins, stepchildren and grand stepchildren, and special friends Nancy Fulcher, Dot Mitchell, and Pam Holbert. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charlie, sister Marcia Rasmussen, and brother Robin Graff.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 27, 2026 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Gloria’s memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in Ludington.
