Gregory “Mo” “Abe” E. Mahoski, Jr., age 59, of Munising, died Monday, May 19, 2025 at his home. He was born on October 1, 1965 in Ishpeming, Michigan to Gregory and Marilyn (Erkkila) Mahoski, Sr. Greg grew up in Ishpeming and graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1983. Growing up he participated in Little Leage Baseball and ran in cross country. Greg found his love of the outdoors at a young age and loved fishing and hunting anything he could, especially rabbits with his dad and their beagle. Greg attended college at DeVry University and later at NMU. He married Noel Hawley on September 7, 1991 and together they raised their three children. Greg worked at Timber Products for six years in the veneer mill before taking a job at Kimberly-Clark. He worked at the papermill in the machine room and eventually was stationed in the powerhouse where he retired from in the fall of 2024. He enjoyed going to the Bear Trap where he threw horseshoes in leagues, played pool, and visited with random tourists to hear their stories and see if he could make a connection. Greg loved to ride in the woods and could be found on the trails on his four-wheeler or side by side offering directions or helping pull someone out of a mud hole. He was an avid hockey fan and loved to cheer on the Washington Capitals. Greg took his family to D.C. to watch his favorite player Alexander Ovechkin, and take in five NHL games. The family also enjoyed trips out west and time together.
Greg is survived by his children – Jacob (Brenna) Mahoski of Milwaukee, WI, Lorena (Isaac) Cole of Rapid River, MI, and Izaak Mahoski of Munising; parents – Greg Sr., and Marilyn Mahoski of Ishpeming; wife – Noel Mahoski of Munising; grandchildren – Ada Mahoski, and Kanye, Kendrick, Phoenix, and Ronin Cole; brothers – Bradley Mahoski, Cory (Annette) Mahoski, and Ryan (Lori) Mahoski; aunts – Laura (Marv) Kantola and Carol Hammar; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents – Hanna and Swande Erkkila and Laurabelle and Joseph Mahoski; and numerous aunts and uncles.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
