Deerton
Harold Dennis “Denny” Short, age 73, of Deerton, died unexpectedly at his home of a cardiac event on Friday, September 7, 2018. He was born on September 20, 1944 in Marquette, MI to the late Cyrus and Louise (Richard) Short. Denny grew up in Deerton, but after his father died while Denny was only four, his mother had to move the family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to find work. Denny graduated Milwaukee Tech High School with a specialty in Cabinetry Making. He entered into the United States Army and was stationed at the Korean border. Denny was a member of the Local 601 Steamfitters Union and worked on High Pressure Boiler Systems for A.O. Smith in Milwaukee. Denny moved back to the Upper Peninsula to build and provide a retirement home for his mother, so she could live out her dream of returning home to the U.P. He was an avid outdoorsman: hunting, fishing, kayaking and enjoying everything the U.P. had to offer. Denny loved to travel all over the U.S., spending a couple of summers in the Yukon, and enjoyed being able to spend his winters in Florida.
Denny is survived by his son David Cyrus Short of Sheboygan, WI; grandson – Joshua; siblings – Wes Allen (Mary) Short and Angela Weishaupt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law – Joseph Weishaupt.
