Munising
Harry J. Smith, Jr., age 92, of Munising, died on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Harbourview Assisted Living in Munising. He was born on January 16, 1934 in Smithville, NJ to Harry and Florence Smith. Harry grew up in New Jersey and worked in the automotive department for Sears for over twenty years and then worked as a gas station attendant. As a divorced dad, the time he got to spend with his daughter, Mary Ann, was always quality time. He taught her to roller skate, how to fish, how to swim and dive, and at his home, Harry had the most elaborate Hot Wheels track set up for her to play with. The two spent hours together playing. He married Dottie Plag and they lived in New Jersey until 2001 when they moved to the Munising area. Harry had an elaborate miniature train collection of cars that he painted. He enjoyed boating and fishing with his son-in-law. Dottie preceded him in death in 2021.
Harry is survived by his daughter – Mary Ann Anderson of Munising; grandsons – Andrew (Courtney Zima) Anderson of Appleton, WI and Paul (Katie) Anderson of Stephenson; great grandchildren – Sean (Pryia), Brett (Laura), Morgan, Ethan, Gavin, and Adrian Anderson; great-great granddaughter – Leighton Jo; and sister – Karen Smith McDonald. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dottie, son-in-law Greg Anderson, and brother-in-law Robert McDonald.
