Jack Schnepper, age 82, of AuTrain and formerly of Rockford, Illinois, died early Wednesday morning, August 9, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family, Commission on Aging, and North Woods Home Hospice.  He was born on July 22, 1935 in Hardin County, Illinois to Louis and Hildred (Piland) Schnepper.  Jack graduated from Rosiclare High School in 1954.  He went to work for the Sundstrand Corporation (which later became United Technologies Corporation) and was a member of the UAW.  Jack retired as an aviation inspector.  While working for Sundstrand, he met Joyce Gail Steinhoff and they were married on July 18, 1959.  He was “THE Jack of all trades” when it came to electrical, plumbing, concrete, and construction.  He could build and fix it all.  Jack’s passion was woodworking.  He loved the smell of the wood and made finely crafted decorations, always following his own meticulous blueprints.  Jack and Joyce lived and worked in Rockford, but every chance they could they would go camping and often to Joyce’s hometown area of Munising.  In 1974, they purchased property in AuTrain which became their own campsite.  In 2009, they permanently moved to AuTrain where they built their home.  Jack was a faithful member of St. Therese Church in AuTrain.

He is survived by his wife of over fifty-eight years – Joyce Schnepper of AuTrain; three children – Lynn Woznicki of Philadelphia, PA, Kevin Schnepper of Rockford, IL, and Debra (David) Jayson of West Chicago, IL; grandchildren – Mary Woznicki, Brigid Woznicki, Heather (Charlie) Barnes, Nicole Schnepper, Amber (Joe) Schnepper, Taylor (Eric) Reaves, Adam Reaves, Cameron Jayson, and Elliott Jayson; great-grandchildren – Allyssa, William, Kaylynn, Addyson, and Emory; brothers – Charles Schnepper and Richard Schnepper; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joann (Joe) Whitmore, brother Ronald Schnepper; sisters-in-law Patience Schnepper and Louise Schnepper.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church in Munising.  Interment will be me at the Serenity Pines Cemetery in AuTrain following the Mass.
