Munising
James F. Moulds, Sr., age 96, of Munising, died Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Hartman’s Adult Care in Escanaba. He was born on May 24, 1929 in Munising to the late Nathan and Genevieve (Prudhomme) Moulds. Jim entered into the United States Army in November of 1949. He was assigned to the 25th Infantry during the Korean War. After his time in Korea he was stationed in Japan with the 24th Infantry. Jim was honorably discharged in August of 1952 as a Corporal and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and was later awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the war. Following his discharge Jim volunteered for the Army National Guard where he worked in the motor pool, vehicle dispatch, and recruiter. Jim retired in 1984 as a Sergent First Class after serving for over thirty years in the Guard. He continued his service to his community and fellow veterans as loyal member of the American Legion Honor Guard serving in countless funeral ceremonies and flag raising throughout the county.
Jim worked for a number of different places, starting with the United States Post Office where he was a letter carrier. Then he worked as a bartender and a few different bars including Benny’s Bar and Miron’s Bar. He was then employed by the City of Munising for fourteen years with public works and plowing in the winters. And finally, another fourteen years with Altran as a bus driver.
Jim enjoyed fishing with his good friend Albert Gagnon, taking trips to the casino with his wife Sandy, and socializing at the bar with many friends over the years.
He is survived by his children – James Moulds, Jr., Michael Moulds of Gladstone, Thomas (Lori) Moulds of Kipling, Laura Anderson of Escanaba, and Michelle (Josh) Norsen of Appleton; step-daughter - Nicole (David) Wachter of Appleton; many grand and great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sister – Ruth “Peach” Niedzwiecki. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Moulds; daughters – Jaunita Ellis and Mary Ann McPherson; step-son – Dave Elwing; grandson – Ryan Savola; siblings - Samuel (Joyce), Tom, Robert, Philip (Patricia) and Blanche Fellion; and brother-in-law – Jim Niedzwiecki.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Bowerman Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Jim’s funeral will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.
