Jeanne C. (Cotey) Poirier

Munising

Jeanne Clare Poirier, age 99, of Munising, died Sunday morning, March 13, 2016 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising.  She was born on May 21, 1916 in Munising to Eugene and Emma (Jobin) Cotey.  Jeanne grew up in Munising and attended Wm. G. Mather High School.  She met Civilian Conservation Corps member, Roland Alexandre Poirier and they fell in love.  They were married on October 11, 1934 and moved to Detroit and raised their family.  Jeanne was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows in Detroit.  She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her sons and she was creative and resourceful with crafts and costumes for her children.  After Roland’s retirement from Chrysler, they returned to Munising in 1971.  Jeanne and Roland became very active with the Munising Senior Citizens Club and she was a member of the Kitchen Kettle Band.  Jeanne was a wonderful cook and loved surrounding herself with little ones.  Her arms were always open to her family and she gave the best hugs.  She loved music and taught all of her children to sing before they could talk.  Jeanne was a member of Sacred Heart Church and had a faithful devotion to praying the Rosary.

She is survived by her children – Gerald (Barbara) Poirier of Macomb Township, MI and Charlene (William) Hornsby of Almont, MI; thirteen grandchildren – Michael, Daniel, Kevin, Mark, Patrick, Paul, Suzanne, David, Kenneth, Renee, Thomas, Matthew, and Gregory; numerous great-grandchildren; sister – Eulene Skszek of Belleville, MI; sister-in-law - Leona Cotey of St. Clair Shores, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Emma, husband Roland, son Donald, grandson Ryan, and siblings Thelma, Mildred, Harold, Priscilla, Francis, John, Dennis, Eleanor, Clayton, and Marna Mae.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 and on Friday morning from 10:30 until 11:30. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate Jeanne’s Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 12:10 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 12:00 noon.
