Jerome L. Johnson, age 78, of Limestone, died at 3:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 at U.P. Health System Marquette following a lengthy illness.  Jerome was born to Louis and Ailie (Hakala) Johnson on August 18, 1939 at the family’s home in Limestone which was the home where he currently resided.  Jerome grew up in Limestone and graduated from Eben High School in 1958.  He worked at Piggly Wiggly in Marquette and then served in the U.S. Army from March of 1959 to February of 1961.   Jerome moved to Pontiac and worked at Pontiac Motors for a few years.   Tired of the city life, Jerome returned home to Limestone where he went to work as a logger in woods for many years.   He enjoyed the outdoor work and worked until his health and eyesight began to fail.  Jerome loved hunting, fishing, and vegetable gardening.

He is survived by two sisters – Sharon Eklund of L’Anse and Pat (Donald) VanEnkenvort of Bark River; longtime friend and companion – Lisa Hebert of Limestone; and nieces and nephew – Jana, Nicole, Angela, and Joe.  Jerome was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Ailie and his brother Rick Johnson.

Graveside services will be held at the Limestone Township Cemetery in Limestone in the late spring or early summer of 2018.  The American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the gravesite on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
