Munising
Jerry S. Trombley, formerly of Munising, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was 70 years old. Both his daughter and his youngest grandson were with him when he passed and many loved ones came and sent encouragement and support in his final days. Preceding his death Jerry was living in Middleton, MI with his nephew, Joe Dominguez, where the two were enjoying a bachelor’s life.
Jerry was born on June 4, 1946 in Munising to the late Charles and Greta (Masters) Trombley, and he grew up in Whitehall, Michigan where he graduated from high school. He entered into the U.S. Army on April 21, 1973 served in Vietnam. Jerry earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Expert M14 and SSM16, Vietnams Campaign Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, and the Purple Heart. Jerry was honorably discharged as a SP4 E4 on April 12, 1973. He was very proud of the service he gave to our country. He was a member of the D.A.V. and truly enjoyed keeping in touch with his friends from the service and often participated in organizations and conferences sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans.
Many who knew him would describe an old man who was quite cantankerous, but those who knew him well can tell you of a man with a great spirit who was generous and caring and who stood on the fierce loyalty he had for his family and his country. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by his daughter – Jennifer R. Trombley of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Destanee Foster, DreQuann Foster, Lawrence Ray Foster Jr., and Nicholas Trombley, as well as three great grandchildren. –His siblings – Millie Dunn of Munising, Loyst Trombley of Wetmore, and Cora Karrik of Williamsfield, IL; brother-in-law – Jim Bardo; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he remained close with until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings – Edith (Everett) Braatz, Muriel (Jack) Binns, Kay Bardo, and Carol Bejarano.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising where the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
