Jody E. Newman

June 13, 1959 — August 12, 2007

Shingleton
Jody E. Newman, age 48, of Graves Road, Shingleton, died unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 12, 2007 while camping in the Garden Peninsula. He was born on June 13, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Cliff and Royalene (Anstett) Newman. Jody's father died when he was young and his mother married USAF Senior Master Sergeant Jeff Pagel. Jody and his family lived around the country and in England while he was growing up. During adulthood, Jody lived in Vero Beach, Florida for many years. He moved to the Upper Peninsula ten years ago to help care for his grandmother, and the U.P. truly became Jody's home. He was a dedicated carrier for the Mining Journal for over seven years. Everyone who had Jody as a carrier knew his dedication and enjoyed the daily visit with him. Ill health forced Jody to retire a few years ago. He enjoyed talking, fishing, hunting, Harley Davidsons, and harassing.
Jody is survived by his thirteen year old son Jeffrey Newman and Jeffrey's mother, Wendy Beasock of Vero Beach, Florida; brothers Bill Newman of Marine City, MI and John (Kathy Kelly) Newman of Thomasboro, IL; sister Barbara (Tracey Leonard) Newman of Marquette; half sister Marsha Newman; five nieces; three nephews; three grandnephews; one grandniece; grandmother Gwen Pagel of Sterling Heights; stepmother Laura Pagel of Ocala, FL; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jody was preceded in death by his parents Cliff, Royalene, and Jeff.
Services for Jody will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Saturday, August 18, 2007. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Jody's service in the funeral home's chapel at 5:00 p.m.
