Joseph "Joe" Stanley Niedzwiecki, age 92, of E9628 H-58, Munising, died at his home on Tuesday afternoon, January 9, 2007. He was born on April 15, 1914 in Munising to the late Joseph and Antoinette (Good) Niedzwiecki. Joe attended the Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather before working fulltime on his family farm. He married Tillie Fleck on May 15, 1940. Together they raised their five children in Munising. Joseph worked part time for the Munising Paper Company from 1934 through 1943 as a laborer in various jobs. He was hired full time in 1946 and held the jobs of Watchman, Stock Clerk, and Receiver. He retired on January 2, 1973 after twenty-six years of service with Kimberly Clark. He loved telling stories of he and Tillie dancing at Club Majestic (Bear Trap) and Beaver Park (Foggy's). Joe loved to fish, especially ice fishing out on the Munising Bay. He also took a lot of pride in his wood working and his tomato garden which he would start in his basement in March.
Joe is survived by his wife of over sixty-six years - Tillie Niedzwiecki of Munising; three sons - Randy Niedzwiecki, Joe (Linda) Niedzwiecki, and Jim (Ruth) Niedzwiecki all of Munising; two daughters - Camie (Larry) Miller of Marquette and Gail (Dan) Woelfel of Maricopa, AZ; seven grandchildren - Chris Kurth, Joseph "JB" Niedzwiecki, Mike Miller, Scott (Pam) Miller, Amy (Tim) Barrett, Tressa (Patrick) Vrba, Aaron (Ryan) Woelfel; seven great-grandchildren; sister - Annie Bosma; sister-in-law - Sylvia Stevenson. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and three brothers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 11, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will conduct a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church at 12:10 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2007. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring. Joe will be escorted by his grandchildren.
