Trenary

Joseph William Begovac, age 64, of Trenary, died Thursday, September 27, 2018 at his home under the loving care of his family, following a long battle with multiple sclerosis.  He was born on September 19, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph F. and Adah (Fitzgerald) Begovac.  At a young age, Joe’s family moved back to Trenary where he grew up playing with his four brothers and all of the neighborhood kids.  He was a graduate of Trenary High School in 1972, and was active member in all sports as a Comet.  Joe married Joni Cady and together they raised their three children.  In 1975, he began working at the Empire Mine as an operator, and retired from Cleveland Cliffs in the early 2000’s.  In 1983, Joe purchased the Silver Dollar Bar in beautiful downtown Trenary, which he still owned and operated.  He took his passion for sports beyond his high school days, and traveled all over in the summers to softball tournaments with friends and family.  Joe married Kathy Allen in 2000, and gained a loving daughter Kelly.  He loved trapping, hunting, fishing, and anything he could do in the great outdoors.  Joe also loved sharing his passion for the outdoors by teaching his sons, nephews, and anyone that wanted to learn about trapping and the U.P. wilderness.  Joe spent a lot of his time hanging out with his grandchildren and working on his projects in the barn at his property.  He was a lifelong member of the National Trappers Association, and lifelong suffering Detroit Lions Fan.

Joe is survived by his children – Shannon Hancock of Trenary, Ryan (Heather) Begovac of Green Bay, WI, and Luke Begovac of Trenary; mother – Adah Begovac of Trenary; step-daughter – Kelly Stewart; grandchildren – Henry, Madisen, Alice, Drew, Rory, Presley, and Josie; brother - Mike Begovac; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father – Joseph F. Begocac; brother – Greg Begovac; brother, sister-in-law, and niece – Ron, Marcia, and Leslie Begovac; and son-in-law – Douglas Hancock.
