Munising
June Matheny, age 89, of N6989 Connors Road, Munising, died on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 5:30 a.m. at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising following a brief illness. She was born on May 26, 1918 in Munising to the late Angus and Anne (Powell) Steinhoff. June attended school in Munising and on January 8, 1941, she married Guy Quinton Matheny, Sr. June was a homemaker and raised their three sons. They were married over forty-seven years when Guy preceded her in death on June 7, 1988. June was a member of the Wesleyan Church of Munising and enjoyed sewing, camping, her grandchildren, cooking, shopping, and visiting friends. June's life truly revolved around care giving. She left school to care for her mother when she was young and also cared for her mother before she died. She diligently and lovingly cared for her handicapped son Danny up until a fall during June of this year. She truly was above and beyond the definition of a caregiver.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law - Guy and Carol Matheny, Jr. of Marlette, MI, Leonard and Lori Matheny of Hesperia, CA, and Danny Matheny at home; six grandchildren - Brian, Scottie, Phillip, Brenda, Melissa, and Scott; and thirteen great-grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her parents Angus and Anne, husband Guy, and brother Lewis Steinhoff.
Friends may call at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pastor Robert Tripp will conduct June's funeral service in the funeral home's chapel on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising and she will be escorted by her grandchildren.
