Larry "Frenchy" LeVeque

Larry M. “Frenchy” LeVeque, age 76, of Munising, died following a brief illness early Wednesday morning, May 4, 2016 at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Home Hospice.  He was born in Munising on March 21, 1940 to Eustace and Carolyn (Greiner) LeVeque.  Because of family circumstances and health issues, Larry was adopted by his uncle and aunt Kenneth and Margie LeVeque, Sr.  He grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm. G. Mather in 1959.  Larry married Kay Ann Verbunker on September 10, 1960 and together they raised their son and daughter.  Larry worked at Standard Oil, as the greens keeper at the golf course in Christmas, at the Foundary, and at Hartho.    The family moved to Little Chute, Wisconsin and he was employed by Giddings and Lewis Machine Shop and Appleton Papers, and he was also a Boy Scout Leader in Little Chute.  After twelve years in Wisconsin, they returned home to Munising and Larry did drywall work with Doug Peters.  He went to work for Kimberly Clark for twenty-three years and retired as the Turbine Operator in the Power House.    Larry retired on September 1, 1999.  In his retirement, he went to work at NAPA Auto Parts and spent many years working at the Buckhorn Lodge and Otter Lake Campground.  Larry worked at the Buckhorn until the time of his death, and he loved working there.  Larry started the Alger County Sno-Riders Club in 2001 and served as President for many years.  He also started the ATV/Snowmobile Maps that is still going.  Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, four wheeling, boating, riding his side by side, and spending time with his grandchildren.  Larry was a member of the Sons of the Legion and he and Kay enjoyed spending time during the winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

He is survived by his wife of over fifty-five years – Kay LeVeque of Munising; son – Jeffrey LeVeque of Munising; daughter – Terri LeVeque (Ollie Eltzroth) of Munising; grandsons – Christopher (Kora Mills) Nettleton and Adam Spaulding; granddaughters – Carrie (Jamie) Kienitz and Katie (Ben) Fulcher; great-grandchildren – Everett, Vera, Audree, Kaylen, Tyler, Alayna, Eva, and Emma; brothers – Jim LeVeque, Bill (Angela) LeVeque of Munising; brothers and sisters-in-law – Joan (Joe) Lancour and Jake (Carol) Verbunker of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents - Eustace, Carolyn, Kenneth, and Margie; brothers – Arthur, Kenneth, and Richard LeVeque, and Lloyd Carlson; and great-granddaughter – Scarlett Kienitz.

Visiting time with family and friends will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m.   At 3:00 p.m., there will be an opportunity to share stories and memories of Larry.  A fellowship time will follow at the American Legion.
