Laura Jean (McCoy) St. Amour

March 11, 1981 — October 7, 2016

Laura Jean St. Amour, age 35, of Munising, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, October 7, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and friends.  Her strong will shined bright during her courageous battle with breast cancer for the last four years.  She was born on March 11, 1981 in Munising to Ron and Kathy (Leffel) McCoy.  She attended Munising High School and was a 1999 graduate.  During high school she enjoyed hanging out with her many friends.  She also was a member of the Cheer Team and held a job during the summers at the Dairy Queen.  Her high school sweetheart, Michael J. St.Amour stole her heart and they began their journey in life together.  She attended Northern Michigan University and pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.  While attending college she worked at Bob’s IGA and was a smiling, happy face that customers loved to see.  Upon her graduation from N.M.U. in April 2004, she began her career as an accountant at the Superior Walk-In Center.

Laura and her husband Mike had a beautiful wedding that took place on July 17, 2004.  Their family began with their dogs, Kyla and Mya until the addition of their vibrant daughter Natalia, which completed their family on April 28, 2008.  Giving birth to Natalia brought so much joy and love to her life.  Natalia became her whole world.  She was such a loving and devoted mother and wife.  She embraced watching Natalia grow and wanted to experience life with her.  They would go to the movies, spend time doing outdoor activities, head out for a weekend away, or just snuggle on the couch with each other.  Every moment they spent together was cherished.  Family vacations also created so many great experiences that will never be forgotten.

Every season of the year brought some adventure her way. Laura learned to water ski at an early age and enjoyed doing it every summer.  Spending time at “Our lake,” (according to Natalia) was where her mom loved to go out in the boat on Lake Superior.  “My mom loves the fall and she likes to wear her jeans and sweatshirts.”  In the winter, she could never get enough fresh powder going snowmobiling.  Both her and Mike shared a passion to hit the hills and go riding.  She also liked to go cross country skiing.  Springtime was always a great time for vacationing.  She traveled not only with Mike and Natalia, but also many trips with her sister Lisa and her many close friends.  She also loved to go shopping, plan vacations, and most of all spend time with her family and friends.  Laura inspired so many people and touched so many hearts.  Her memory will always be treasured and held close.  She was gracious, elegant and a true blessing to anyone that was lucky enough to have had her in their life.  Her beautiful smile could light up a room just as she lit the life of so many close to her.

Laura is survived by her husband – Michael St.Amour of Munising; their daughter – Natalia St.Amour; mother – Kathy (John) Bennett of Munising; father – Ron McCoy of Munising; sister – Lisa McCoy (Chad Seaberg) of Munising; parents-in-law – Jim and Carol St.Amour; sister-in-law – Jamie (Barry) Johnson of Munising; niece – Valerie; nephews – Matthew, Alex, and Trevor; grandmothers – Jean McCoy and Nancy Kinnunen; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents – Jess and Laura Leffel, Ron McCoy, Reino Kinnunen, and Bob and Peggy St.Amour.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Rev. Mark Werner will conduct Laura’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.  A luncheon will take place at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church following the funeral.  Interment will be at a later date at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
