Loretta M. Herman, age 85, of Shelter Bay died on Sunday evening, April 20, 2025 at the Sun Valley Homes Assisted Living in Marinette, Wisconsin. She was born on October 19, 1939 in Virginia, Minnesota. Loretta grew up in Minnesota and Michigan. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Detroit Mercy and her master’s degrees in education from Oakland University. Loretta taught elementary school for the Utica and Swartzkoff Elementary Schools. After her retirement, she and her mother moved to Shelter Bay. Loretta loved living on Lake Superior. She was president of the Alger County Democratic Party and was involved with the Alger County Animal Shelter. She was easy going and enjoyed reading, quilting, flower gardening, watching the wildlife, and Loretta never met a cat she didn’t like.
Loretta is survived by her husband – Dan Herman of Shelter Bay; stepchildren – Matt Roop, Dr. Marlene (Jim) Baumeister, Jeff Roop, Douglas Herman, and David (Michelle) Herman; and numerous step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary (Doto) Thompson, husband Don Roop, stepson Joe Roop, and step grandson Hunter Roop.
