Margaret “Maggie” Goss Meiss passed away on February 14, 2024 at Marquette County Medical Care facility in Ishpeming where she had been a resident for four years. She was born on July 22, 1944 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to George and Kathleen Goss.  Maggie grew up in Munising and graduated from Mather High School in 1962. She played clarinet in the high school band.

She was a very generous, kind, and fun-loving person.  She loved to pick blueberries. Her yard was filled with roses and flowers. She loved her pet cockatiel and parakeets, Perky and Pixie.

Maggie had beautiful handwriting, was artsy and creative, loved writing and reading poetry and had a chance to see Alan Ginsberg at NMU.  Maggie was also a talented artist and created many abstract paintings. She made many beautiful pins and handcrafted items turning this into a cottage industry and used her artistry as a seamstress to repair clothes for the Historical Society. She worked in sales for the Ishpeming radio station, worked in retail establishments, and cooked for the Forestry Service at Clear Lake and also at Camp Plagens in Watersmeet.

Maggie was actively involved in St. Louis the King Church in Harvey.  She taught CCD and was involved in the women’s group.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Kathleen Goss, brother-in-law Jordan Fishman, and grand-nephew Tysen Benz.  She is survived by her son Christopher of Harvey, her grandson Christopher (Bridget), great-grand daughter Abigail, a brother Christopher Goss of Deerton, sisters Betsy (Frank) Trumbell of Iron Mountain, Barbara Fishman of Milwaukee and nieces and nephews Katrina (Tony) Smith, Matthew (Jamie) Trumbell, David (Faye) Trumbell, Michael (Tracy) Trumbell and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the many care givers and staff at Marquette Medical Care Facility for the care and compassion they showed Maggie.  Also, a big thank you to the staff at Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice who cared for Maggie at the end of her life.
