Marilyn Anne Seaglund

Marilyn Anne Seaglund, age 74, of Wetmore, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, under the loving care of her brother, Gordie.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 11, 1952, to the late Robert and Margaret (Storrie) Seaglund. Marilyn grew up in Detroit and graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1970. She went to work for the State of Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), where she started by cleaning rest areas, went on to the road crew, and then became a bridge inspector. With her mother’s health failing, she left the State to lovingly serve as her primary caregiver until her death in 2001. She was excited to move to her beloved Munising when she relocated to the family home on Powell Lake in 2002. She took great joy in the serenity of the lake and in building beautiful flower gardens around her home. (Local greenhouses no doubt took great joy in her annual flower shopping trips – Marilyn never met a flower she didn’t love.) She welcomed her brother, Gordie, when he retired and joined her at Powell Lake in 2008.

Marilyn was caring and spunky her entire life, always ready with a smile and a little bit of sass. If you knew her, you know she loved and valued three things above all else: family, friends, and Munising. Oh, and crazy hats and creative nail art too! Each 4th of July saw her appropriately decked out with the goofiest hat she could find, and nails to match. Family especially looked forward to seeing what she would wear to the annual 4th of July gathering at her cousin Peder’s home. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She delighted in decorating the tree each year, directing Gordie in stringing the lights and carefully placing each much-loved ornament in just the right spot.

Marilyn loved children, and they loved her. She gravitated toward any child she caught sight of, sharing in their joy and wonder. She was highly social, and she delighted in travels around the U.P. with her friend Barb Gamlin. In her younger years she and cousin Kathi often found themselves at the receiving end of fatherly discipline as they returned from their misadventures involving the rowboat on Powell Lake, abounding in bad behaviors like … well, no need to go into further detail.

Marilyn is survived by her brothers – Robert (Sue) Seaglund of Rochester Hills, Michigan and Gordon Seaglund of Wetmore; nephews - Eric (Kimberly), Brian (Michelle), and Kenny (Julie Bonscour); several great nephews and nieces; and numerous Seaglund/Seglund/Segolund cousins (there’s a story there). Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jason LaFlamme officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Munising Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marilyn’s name are requested to the Alger County Commission on Aging.
