Marlene Ann Robbins

February 16, 1937 — April 24, 2024

Munising / Chatham

Marlene Ann Robbins, age 87, of Chatham and formerly of Munising, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Munising Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.  She was born on February 16, 1937 in Escanaba, Michigan to the late Richard and Ann (Tallman) Barbeau.  Marlene was raised in Fayette and Fairport and then went on to graduate from Escanaba High School.  Shortly after graduation, while he was on leave following basic training, Marlene married Maynard J. Robbins on May 18, 1958 and together they raised their three children.  Marlene and Maynard lived in a number of different places while he was stationed in Alaska and then where his working career brought him.  No matter where they lived Marlene was active in their community.   Marlene and Maynard throughout their marriage managed a number of different housing complexes wherever they lived.  They managed the trailer court in Alaska where they lived, Willow Creek Apartments in Escanaba, and the Chatham Manor which Marlene eventually proudly called her home.  While living in Menominee Marlene worked the night shift at the Lloyd Flanders factory, and when they moved to Gladstone, she was the secretary at the First Lutheran Church.  While at the church, she was active with the youth group and would chaperone group trips to Great America.  Marlene enjoyed making crafts out of driftwood and would take her children for walks on the beach to gather materials.  While in Munising she was a member at Eden Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering as an election day poll worker at city hall.  Marlene enjoyed golfing, singing in the choir, Friday night fish fries, and concerts in the park.  And no matter where you saw Marlene, she loved to talk and visit. Marlene loved her family very much and did all she could to care for and support her children.   She lived a good life and was always there to help other people.

Marlene is survived by her children – Kristen (Jonathan) Rosenberg of Lake Forrest, IL, Scott (Cyndi) Robbins of St. Mary’s, GA, and Craig Robbins of Rapid River, MI; grandchildren – Jacob and Arielle Rosenberg and Zakary Robbins; great-grandson – Jasper Robbins; siblings – Kandis (James) Scully, Connie (Duane) French, Linda Cromell, and Dean (Julie) Barbeau; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents – Richard and Ann; husband – Maynard; sister – Jody Barbeau; infant brother – Richard Barbeau; and brother-in-law – Donald Cromell.
