MUNISING
Nellie Blanche Tongusi, age 94, of Munising died Tuesday, January 01, 2008 at her home of forty-nine years, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 9, 1913 in Wetmore to the late Jacob and Helen Tyner. Nellie attended Sacred Heart School. She married Robert "Kyke" Tongusi in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1978. Together they raised thirteen children. Her family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren who she adored. Nellie worked at the Williams Hotel on Grand Island and Munising Wooden Ware. She worked in the kitchen at Wieland's Hotel and Grill for twenty-two years. Nellie was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Nellie is survived by her nine children - Patricia McQuisten of Munising, Donna (George) Reimer of Florida, Robert H. Tongusi of Munising, John "Jake" (Patricia) Tongusi of Brighton, MI, Mary Jean (Dennis) Humphrey of Shingleton, Charles Tongusi of Shingleton, Shirley Johnson of Munising, Terry Tongusi of Munising, Darlene (Steve) Richardson of Escanaba; sister - Stella Jerumbo of Manistee, MI; forty-one grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law - June Tyner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by infant sons - Robert, Joseph, and John; another son - Joseph Tongusi; twelve siblings; sons-in-law - Floyd McQuisten and Glenn Johnson.
Nellie's interment will be on July 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
