Nick Alan Froberg

Nick Alan Froberg, age 57, of Munising, died at his home following a lengthy illness on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1969 in Munising to the late Richard “Dick” and Arlene (Monette) Froberg. As a kid, “Nicky” grew up on Indiantown Road playing sports and games with the neighborhood kids. His family and friends spent summers camping at Pete’s Lake and vacationing together. He was a standout athlete in Little League, wrestling, baseball, basketball and football. Nick excelled as a Munising Mustang and received All State, Mid Pen All Conference and MVP awards in basketball and football. He graduated from Munising High School in 1987 (where his classmates voted him homecoming king and best looking.) Nick joined the U.S. Navy and served from September of 1987 until September of 1990. He served on the USS Dale and was stationed in Mayport, Florida. After serving in the Navy, Nick worked in Florida, Arizona, and Wisconsin before returning home to Munising. Nick worked as a Corrections Officer for State of Michigan at the Munising Corrections Facility. Nick enjoyed walking the beach looking for rocks and driftwood. Of all the loves he had in his life, his dog, Otto, was the love he loved most. He doted on and constantly cared for and worried about him. Nick loved Otto and Otto loved Nick.

Nick is survived by his brother – Brad (Donna) Froberg; aunt – Pauline Knuttila; nieces – Shelby (Trace) Hummel and Sheena Froberg; nephew – Logan (Nikki) Froberg; great nephews – Porter and Jack; great niece – Palmer; and numerous cousins. Nick was preceded in death by his father Richard “Dick” Froberg, mother Arlene Froberg, brother Terry Froberg, nephew Jordan Froberg, and grandparents Herman Monette and Oliver and Gertrude Froberg.

Military honors will be rendered Alger County Veterans Honor Guard at the Veterans section of the Maple Grove Cemetery on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
